4.    Officer Reports

The meeting received reports from the Chairman, Treasurer, Events Organiser and Secretary/Website Editor on the work carried out over the preceding year (set out below).

The Committee Members were thanked for their hard work and endeavours in administering and organising the club affairs on behalf of the members.

  Chairman’s Annual Report- Ian Reed

Now that the Bishop Waltham Social Club opening hours have been reduced we can only meet every other week. Generally these evenings had between 10 and 15 attendees and with only 26 meetings a year our annual income has been much reduced. That is not critical since we only need to collect enough money to pay our operating costs and annual BWSC memberships. The session fee of £2 per attendee covers this.

However, the 2023 guest nights have been poorly attended and all made a loss on the night. To preserve our financial reserves, we have decided to reduce the number of paid guests next year and increase the number of theme nights, member spots and special club based events. We will be preparing our 2024 activities programme shortly.

I extend my thanks to our Committee for all their hard work during the last year and to all of our musician friends who have made our club nights so enjoyable.

  Treasurer’s Report - Nigel Hunter

Nonsuch bank balance @ 30th October 2022     = £2,109-41

Payments out ( cheques, cash, bank charges etc.) = £945-80

Payments in (subs)                                                  = £835 90

Nonsuch bank balance @ 30th September 2023 = £1876-42

  Secretary and Website Editor's Report - Rosie Johnson

My role is managing communications between our club members and potential visitors. I do this through emails and by maintaining the website for which I now have sole responsibility.

I have also been responsible for the recovery of our website after Google lost some of our registration details.

  Event organiser’s Report - Lyn Colbeck

It’s been a good year at the Club. Jim Chorley, The Lost Trades, Beggar’s Belief and Si Barron gave guest appearances. Our own, home-grown Club member spots included magnificent contributions from Ian Kimber, Roy Torrens and Dave Betteridge. Our Theme Nights covered subjects as varied as Temperance, World Travel, Items of Clothing, Trains, Boats & Planes and Landscapes. A very successful Charity Night Singaround allowed us to donate money to Nigel Hunter’s nominated Charity, the Wessex Cancer Trust.

5.    Election of Folk Club Committee Members

It was reported that, other than nominations received from the current committee members, there had been no other nominations received from club members wishing to serve on the Committee. The following Committee Members were therefore re-elected:

      Vice-chairman – Steve Coltman;

      Minute Secretary – Sandra Coltman;

      Treasurer – Nigel Hunter;

      Events Organiser – Lyn Colbeck;

      Secretary and Website Editor – Rosie Johnson

6.    Constitution

It was noted that a Club Constitution had been prepared and was available on the Nonsuch Website.

7.    Date of Next AGM

It was noted that the next AGM would be held in November 2024.

There being no further business, the meeting was closed.
